About

Company Danzante began artistic activities in Northern Virginia in 2013, founded by contemporary dance artists and husband and wife duo, Katherine Horrigan and Arturo Garcia. The origins of the company began in Mexico in 2008 with the DanzaNorte Collective, established by the couple following their international performing careers. The company is known for its innovative, technical, and powerful contemporary repertory that represents the current times through diverse artistic voices of both the directors and guest choreographers. Annual guest artists commissions have included works by Mexican, Slovenian, Cuban, African-American, and female artists. The company has been invited to perform four times at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, as well as at these prestigious venues and festivals across the United States.

Performances

Company Danzante has a large repertory of contemporary dance works created for the company by guest and resident choreographers. Each full-length performance includes mixed repertory of 3-5 choreographies that collectively create a well-rounded program with visual, emotional, and musical variety. A full company production includes 6-8 dancers with production and technical leadership by 2 company directors. Company Danzante can also present 1-2 choreographies between 5-20 minutes in length, as part of a festival or joint performance with other companies. The repertory includes choreographies with 2-8 dancers.

Please request a technical rider and specific theater requirements for each choreography.

Residencies

Company Danzante’s residencies are customized and may include dance classes in several techniques and styles, workshops, staging choreography on students, panels, presentations, rehearsals, creative process, other educational offerings, and performances. A residency may take place from 3 days to 2 weeks. Please contact directors to customize the residency goals and activities for your organization.

Educational Programs

Company Danzante offers master classes and workshops in contemporary dance, contemporary partnering, ballet, contemporary ballet, Graham Technique, Horton Technique, and improvisation for beginner to advanced levels. Company repertory workshops and composition are also available. For a collaborative experience, directors and company members can set a section of the repertory on advanced dancers for a presentation or a new choreography can be created by directors for students. Lecture Demonstrations and School Performances are available.
