Permanent stage no smaller than 32’ wide x 24’ deep (not including the wings) for mixed repertory performances and full length ballets; marley flooring on the stage and sound system required for all performances; ability to hang backdrops and theatrical lighting required for full length ballets. For educational performances, dancers need an open space and can include cafeterias, gymnasiums, or similar size space. Please inquire to discuss details.
Roanoke Ballet Theatre is a classical and contemporary professional ballet company dedicated to increasing the public’s appreciation of dance in a variety of forms while serving the needs of the community through education, outreach, and performance. Under the direction of Sandra Meythaler Roanoke Ballet Theatre has grown tremendously in dancers, performances, and enthusiastic audience following in the last five years. The company now consists of 15 professional dancers from all over the country performing four Black Box venue shows, three mainstage performances, and touring and outreach performances each season.
Roanoke Ballet Theatre brings new and exciting works to the stage each season. In addition to presenting exceptional productions of classical ballets with magnificent sets and costumes, master classes, and educational outreach lectures and demonstrations. Roanoke Ballet Theatre is excited to work with presenters and perform for to new audiences throughout Virginia.
Mixed Repertory Performances: The professional company will perform a 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minute mixed repertory performance including dance in the genres of classical ballet, neoclassical ballet, and contemporary dance.
Full Length Ballets: Roanoke Ballet Theatre can also tour half and full length ballets. Ballets available to be toured this season include Midsummer Nights Dream, Giselle, Dracula, Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker.
Workshops: “Dance Appreciation 101.” The 45-60 minute workshop will include teachings on the history of dance and major figures of classical ballet, neoclassical ballet, contemporary and modern dance. This will give the audience a better understanding of different forms of dance and how they shaped the dance world we know today. Dancers of Roanoke Ballet Theatre will demonstrate concepts of these four genres, and participate in a talk back sessions with the audience members. Audience: Pre-school through middle school.
Masterclasses: A 2-hour ballet class taught by Roanoke Ballet Theatre’s Artistic Director, Sandra Meythaler, or Ballet Mistress, Renee Aguilera. Audience: Suitable for intermediate to advanced ballet students
In addition, Roanoke Ballet Theatre can present any of its performances with an educational speaker explaining concepts and the history of dance and/or the story line of a ballet.
