Bill Heid Solo Performance
Bill Heid plays all styles of blues piano including boogie woogie, be-bop, funk, and neo-soul styles having learned from greats Pete Johnson, Albert Ammons, Meade Lux Lewis, as well as more modern styles of Floyd Dixon and Amos Milburn. In the 1960’s, he hitch- hiked in all the 48 U.S. continental states, amassing a 78 RPM blues record collection of more than a thousand records which served as his “university.” By logging more than 400,000 miles over 33 years, he was admitted into the GUINESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS in 1985 for most documented hitch-hiking miles.
School Lecture Demonstration
Bill explores the history of blues piano from the early recordings of Big Maceo to jazz great McCoy Tyner and tells some amazing stories of his solo performances as well as with other blues and jazz greats.
