The Virginia Commission for the Arts has been notified by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles that purchasers of the arts license plates qualify for a $15 tax deduction
(FAQ about Tax Deduction).
Fifteen dollars of the annual fees for the arts license plates are paid into a fund managed by the State Department of Accounts and held in trust for the Virginia Commission for the Arts. Each year the Commission receives the interest from this account to be used for grants to Virginia arts organizations.
Since the ultimate recipients of the $15 payments are 501(c)3 organizations, the money is considered tax deductible. The balance of the payment for each arts license plate is the standard charge for a vehicular license and is not tax deductible.
