ABOUT

Kumar Das is a Bangladeshi-American who has performed internationally and throughout the U.S. Kumar has multiple National Artist's Gold Medal Awards in Classical Tabla music. He performs classically and has also taken his musicianship to Branson, MO, where he played with Bluegrass Music greats, to studio work with Hip Hop stars, and with contemporary Jazz musicians.

PERFORMANCES

There are two aspects in Indian Classical music, melody and rhythm; in his performances, Kumar brings both elements to the audience. As an accompanying or solo artist, Kumar's ability to connect with his audience is easy and relaxed. His artistry elicits the divine art of music and creates a transcendent, spiritual experience for his listeners.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

Master Class participants (college level) will have an opportunity to hear the rhythms and melodies, melodic and rhythmic cycles, metric modulations, the history of the music and how it relates to the human body and mind. Students, teachers, and community members will be able to see and hear the tonal and spiritual quality of Indian music. Students will progress from simple to complex to polyrhythmic patterns. The relationship between rhythm and the oral history of India as well as the link to rituals honoring life transitions will be explored.
