ABOUT

Samson Trinh & The Upper East Side Big Band is made up of the finest musicians in the capital of Virginia. With their horns blasting, rhythm section diggin', and vocalists swingin', this 19-piece ensemble always entertains and excites audiences. Music includes the jazz and big band swing repertoires of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, and Ella Fitzgerald. Original modern compositions and arrangements from Trinh and vocalist/pianist Adrian Duke includes songs by The Beatles, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, Nina Simone, Prince, and Cake. Along with Duke on vocals, siblings Allyson Mills Steele and Curtis Mills stylistically bring a hip and unique original sound to the ensemble.

CONCERTS

range from a 90-minute to 2-hour program with intermission featuring interactive jazz, swing, and popular genres. By request, Upper East Side Big Band occasionally performs The Beatles' "Abbey Road" album in its entirety.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

will educate and delight young audiences with assemblies that include a unique blend of historic swinging jazz, interpretations of current music, and children's classics. The band ranges from 15 to 19 members depending on request.

Workshops

acquaint middle and high school band / chorus students with jazz. The workshop focuses on teaching jazz elements and history that will help students relate to how early 1930s to late 1940s big band music was considered the rock music of its time. The group session provides wonderful musical interactions between the students and the professional musicians
