Statewide Grant Assistance Workshops

The Virginia Commission for the Arts announces a series of statewide grant workshops to be held in January and February, 2009.  Workshop locations include: Richmond, Newport News, Lynchburg, Roanoke, Abingdon, Middletown and Lorton.  

VCA Program Coordinator Cathy Welborn and Arts-in-Education Coordinator Elizabeth Cantile will provide an overview of grant programs, application and review procedures, as well as general tips on preparing competitive proposals in preparation for the March 2, 2009, and April 1, 2009, application deadlines. 

Workshops are free and open to the public; pre-registration is not required.  Attendance is not required in order to apply for Commission funding; however, workshops can be helpful for first-time applicants preparing requests for the following grant programs and/or directories:

General Operating Support Grants for Arts Organizations; Services to the Field;
Project Grants for Organizations; Local Government Challenge Grants;
Artist-In-Education Residencies; Teacher Incentive Grants; Technical Assistance and Technology Enhancement Grants; Artist Fellowships; Touring Assistance for Presenters; Performing Arts Tour Directory; Artist Roster; and Writers in Virginia.

Application forms and publications will be available at each two-hour workshop.  Persons requiring the services of an interpreter for the hearing impaired should contact the Commission office at least one week in advance of the workshop.

The Virginia Commission for the Arts is the state agency that supports the arts through funding from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Commission distributes grants to arts and other not-for-profit arts organizations, educational institutions, educators, artists, and local governments. The Commission also provides financial assistance for technical assistance and assistance in arts management.
