Important Changes for 2012
There will no longer be a joint registration for Art Works for Virginia professional development sessions and the Arts Advocacy Day activities. Participants will have to register with the Virginia Commission for the Arts for the Art Works for Virginia conference sessions and with Virginians for the Arts for Arts Advocacy Day and the annual membership meeting.
The location of the conference will be the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Although the street address of the convention center is Third Street, the building covers the blocks from Third to Fifth Streets. There is an entrance to the Convention Center directly across the street from the Marriott Hotel, the location of recent Art Works for Virginia conferences. If you walk out the front door of the Marriott Hotel, the Fifth Street entrance to the Convention Center is immediately across the street. Art Works registration will be in the Fifth Street foyer of the Convention Center.
There will be a different format for the reception on Wednesday. Members of the General Assembly will not be invited. Virginians for the Arts is planning a separate reception for members of the General Assembly earlier in January. The reception at the end of the day on Wednesday, January 25, will be solely for conference participants to network with one another and unwind after the day. There will be a cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres.
The Commission will not accept credit card payment of the registration fees. You must send a check or a money order. It is expensive for a state government agency to set up a system of accepting credit card payments, and the Commission is choosing to spend its scarce resources in other ways. Please print the Art Works for Virginia Conference Brochure via PDF, Google Doc, or request a brochure by contacting (804) 225-3132 or arts@arts.virginia.gov
More information on the conference will follow. The Commission staff and board looks forward to seeing you at Art Works for Virginia in January 2012.
