Goals
- To raise public visibility of the size and scope of the arts and cultural industry of Virginia
- To build more collaborations among arts and cultural organizations
- To showcase the work of Virginia cultural organizations in encouraging learning by children
- To shine a spotlight on creativity in children
Key Points
- Participation is open to all artists, arts organizations, museums, and libraries in Virginia.
- Arts and cultural organizations present their Children and the Arts programs as part of their regular seasons, thereby incurring no additional costs for participating.
- MINDS WIDE OPEN is a collaboration, not a separate organization.
- Virginians for the Arts is the fiscal agent for the initiative.
- The planning team - Susan Hirschbiel of Virginia Beach, Gus Stuhlreyer of the Virginia Opera, Elizabeth Murphy of the Fairfax Symphony, and Peggy Baggett of the Virginia Commission for the Arts - are raising money for the statewide marketing campaign.
- All ten living First Ladies of Virginia are serving as Honorary chairs.

- Website and logo used by all participants
- Advertising on public radio in Virginia and surrounding states
- Placement of stories in all Virginia newspapers and magazine
- Website banner ads
- Inserts in playbills for arts organizations across the state
